Planning your engagement session in D.C.? You’re in for a visual treat.
This city is more than just monuments and marble. It’s a place where classic architecture meets hidden gardens, where the light changes with the season, and where every couple can find a setting that feels like them.
As a wedding photographer who’s lived and worked in D.C. for over a decade, I’ve explored just about every corner of this city with a camera in hand. Here are my 5 favorite engagement photo locations in Washington, D.C.—plus some personal tips to make the most of them.
1. Georgetown Waterfront & Historic Streets
Georgetown is the timeless classic. Cobblestone streets, ivy-covered walls, vintage storefronts—it’s all here. The light near the canal is soft and glowy in the early morning, and sunset by the waterfront is downright cinematic.
Tip: Weekday mornings are your best friend here. The area is peaceful, and the golden light bouncing off the Potomac is perfect.
2. The National Arboretum
Sprawling fields, blossoming trees, and those iconic Corinthian columns? Yes, please.
This place gives you a mix of nature and grandeur. In spring, the cherry blossoms bloom without the Tidal Basin crowds. In autumn, the foliage feels like an oil painting.
Tip: Bring walking shoes (we’ll sneak them out of the frame). And let’s plan around golden hour—it’s pure magic here.
3. The Lincoln Memorial (At Sunrise)
Lincoln is an icon, but the secret is to go early. I mean really early. Sunrise here is peaceful and pink-tinged, and you’ll get those marble columns all to yourselves.
Tip: This is for the adventurous morning people—or coffee-bribed night owls. Totally worth the early wake-up.
4. Meridian Hill Park
This spot feels like it belongs in Europe. The cascading fountain, dramatic staircases, and open lawns give us plenty to work with.
It’s elegant but relaxed, perfect for couples who want something architectural but slightly off the beaten path.
Tip: Springtime here is soft and romantic. If you love neutrals and texture, this location is a dream.
5. Your Favorite Neighborhood Corner
Sometimes, the best backdrop is personal. Maybe it’s your first-date spot. Maybe it’s your weekend farmers market. Maybe it’s just your building’s rooftop.
There’s beauty in the everyday, and I love helping couples tell their story through meaningful places.
Tip: If it matters to you, it matters to me. We can mix in a few “big” D.C. spots with a quiet moment in your neighborhood café or garden.
The best engagement sessions aren’t just about pretty places—they’re about connection. Whether we’re chasing light on the National Mall or sipping coffee in Capitol Hill, my goal is always to make you feel seen, comfortable, and beautifully yourselves.
Ready to plan your session? I’d love to hear your story and help you pick the perfect backdrop.
Let’s create something unforgettable.
